Six events detailed in words and pictures by six distinguished speakers in *six minutes and 20 or fewer images.*

In conjunction with the 2015 Balboa Park Centennial, C-3 will present a year-long series of Breakfast Dialogues on ideas and initiatives that will shape San Diego’s next 100 years built on the six pillars in Sustainable Paradise: The environment, communities, economic prosperity, international region, sustainable life and social systems.  “Archtober” gives us the opportunity to announce and kick-off this 2015 series while taking a look back.

• ·       San Diego Downtown:  Kim Kilkenny will present the downtown historical change  from the bustling Spreckels street car era through the downtrodden days of the 1970’s  to Horton Plaza and subsequent redevelopment resulting in the downtown urban center of today

• ·       NTC to Liberty Station: Kim Elliott will detail the historical but changing significance of the Naval Training Center to the Liberty Station urban village of today 

• ·       Mission Valley:  Frank Wolden on the evolution from dairy farms and riparian river beds to a gridlock of freeways, malls, stadiums and condominiums.

• ·       Coronado Bridge:  Bruce Linder chronicles the days of “resort era” Coronado served by ferries to the growth of North Island with the opening of San Diego’s Iconic Coronado Bridge.

• ·       Suburbia: Mark Steele on the explosion of bedroom communities throughout our region and how we’ve tried to mitigate their impacts.

• ·       UCSD and Growth of the Biotechs: Boone Hellmann on the iconic institution that UCSD has become and the economic boon of the biotech industry it has spawned.

Following these presentations our speakers will engage in an open forum discussing how these changes, among others, will impact San Diego‘s form in planning for the future.
